An unusual, but simple, sideways construction combines garter stitch and stripes to make a beret or a beanie inspired by the swirling onion domes of St. Petersburg. Stitches are picked up to work the ribbing in the round.

This pattern requires approximately 50g yarn in each of two colours. It can also be worked in a single colour.

Pattern gives stitch counts for beret- extra small (small, medium, large), beanie- small (medium, large, extra large); approximately equivalent to 52 (56, 58, 62) cm head circumference. The beanie has a snug fit, choose a larger size for a more relaxed fit.

Errata: In the original version of this pattern there is an error with the repeat after Row 10 has been worked.

The correct instruction is:
Repeat Rows seven to ten a total of 6 (7, 8, 9) times.
