This cowl duplicates one of the amazing carpet patterns in the Overlook Hotel from the movie The Shining, based on the book of the same name by Stephen King. But, if you’re knitting this, I’m sure you knew that. The cowl is knit in the round, using stretchy cast-on
and bind-off methods. There are two yarn weight options and three size options, with directions on increasing and decreasing size for further variations. You never know when you might need to make a tiny cowl for your cat. Three colors are used in the pattern, making it a more advanced knit. Charts are provided in the original color scheme as well as in greyscale for those wanting to use a different pallet.

Construction
This cowl is knit in the round starting and ending
with a simple 2x2 ribbed edging, with a three-color
stranded colorwork, using only a knit stitch, making
up the pattern in the main body of the cowl. The
colorwork chart rows are worked over 16 stitches,
repeating a specified number of times for each
cowl version/size. I suggest repeating the entire
chart of 24 rows two times but it can be repeated
as many times as needed to reach the preferred
length of your cowl. You may want to stop mid
chart to reach your desired height. I chose to
stop row 15 to end with a similar amount of CC2
showing on each end of the cowl.
