This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawl that is comprised of two different lace stitches. The focal stitch of the shawl is a very unusual lace stitch, that shows itself beautifully when knitted into a shawl. The lace edging stitch is added in the traditional Shetland manner, and gives a beautiful and graceful bottom to the shawl. The combination of these two stitches gives this shawl a very unique look.

The shawl measures 70 inches at the widest points across the top and is 26 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with one of the heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles. The shawl requires approximately 950 yards of yarn making it both a perfect first time lace shawl project, as well as the perfect gift.

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The sample was expertly pattern tested by Deb Terrio, who can be contacted at: jstdt3t@ gmail.com. The sample was knitted using Fleece Artist’s Merino 2-6, in colorway, charcoal.
