The Slow Huggers are a family of adorable sloths. They are great at hugging people and each other with their big snuggly heads and their long squishy arms. Add snaps or magnets to their hands and feet to hang them from arms, trees, or even baby cribs!

The sloths are knit from the head down, with the arms and legs knit on at the end, and a duplicate stitched face. There isn’t a lot of duplicate stitching, so if you’ve never done it before, this is a great project to learn on!

These loving softies can be made in any weight of yarn to produce a tiny little guy made with fingering weight to a gigantic life-sized sloth with super bulky.

For each yarn weight there are 3 recommended needle sizes that can be used to create different sized softies. You can make a family by adjusting needle size or by using 3 different yarn weights.
Fingering weight: US 1-3 (2.25-3.25mm)

Sport weight: US 3-5 (3.25-3.75mm)

Worsted/Aran weight: US 7-9 (4.5-5.5mm)

Bulky weight: US 9-11 (5.5-8mm)

Super Bulky weight: US 11-15 (8-10mm)

Notes:
Yarn used in the pictures:
Purple - Spud and Chloe Outer in Purple (Super Bulky on US 11)
Pink - Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Solids, Heathers & Twists in Raspberry (Worsted on US 6)
Beige - Knit Picks Stroll Sport in Mink Heather (Sport on US 6)
Yellow - Cascade Superwash Sport 220 in Lemon (Sport on US 4)

All proceeds from The Slow Huggers and Bruce & Norm, the Despicable Minions from October 2014- December 2015 were donated to the Pediatric Cancer Care and Research Fund at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, OR. My niece underwent chemo there for Medulloblastoma and the things they do for these insanely brave kids is amazing!

While they cannot accept knitted toys (for infection control reasons) they can use the funds to provide new books, crafts, and toys for the 140,000 annual visits from kids with life-threatening illnesses. Check out their Wish List for other ways to help.
