These socks were inspired by the yarn they are knit in - Cascade Heritage Wave in “Lava”. I wanted to create a pattern that would take that red hot colour, and evoke the feeling of lava oozing along across a field of volcanic rock.
A simple column of feather and fan, offset on the front, and mirrored on the other sock achieved the affect I was going for; smooth knitting broken only by a column of curving lace. Because the lace is only knit across 18 stitches of the sock (and only one in four rows has patterning, these socks knit up surprisingly fast.
Don’t be surprised if your needles are smoking by the time you are done!
