The gather in the back is created by a series of slipped stitches to which a wrap is added every fourth round to give the hat a decorative touch.

This pattern was created to accompany ReBelle’s special 6th anniversary yarn, but can be knitted with any worsted weight yarn. I recommend Malabrigo Rios as a nice substitute.
