The Stars at Night is a beautifully textured crescent shape shawl. It features some interesting stitch patterns and works well with variegated yarn. You know those skeins you have been hoarding!? Yes, those! Well, bust them out and get knitting!

Tutorial for the Reverse Yarn Over Mesh Stitch.

Please make sure to read through the entire pattern before you begin, so you will know what to expect.

Difficulty: Intermediate-*** to **** out of 5 stars for difficulty, due to some of the stitch patterns that are involved but it depends on your level of knitting experience.

Materials
Yarn Used for Sample: madelinetosh twist light 420 yards per skein

Total yarn required for Shawl: 2 skeins=840 yards of madelinetosh twist light, in Spectrum or approximately 790 yards of a fingering weight yarn

Needles: US 4/3.50 mm 36 inch circular needle
US 4/3.50 mm double pointed needles for garter tab cast on

Gauge: 7 sts x 14 rows = 1 inch in garter st before blocking
Gauge is not critical for this project, but keep in mind that a different gauge can change the amount of yarn required to complete the pattern. It is important that you like the fabric that is created from your chosen needle size.

Shawl Size after Blocking: 17 inches from center CO to bottom edge and 63.5 inches from wingtip to wingtip

Notions: locking stitch markers, darning needle to weave in ends and items for blocking your finished shawl.

Yo-yarn over-bring the yarn between the needles from back to front and up over the top of the RH needle and work the next st as written in the pattern
Ayo-afterthought yarn over-Lift the bar running between the sts with your LH needle from front to back and knit it. This creates a smaller hole than a regular yarn over. It is similar to knitting a M1L increase only you do not twist the stitch to close it. You are more than welcome to use a regular yarn over instead of an ayo.
Reverse yo-reverse yarn over-With the yarn in back, bring the working yarn from back to front between the needles, up and over the RH needle and work the next st as written in the pattern. After you make the reverse yarn over and work the next stitch, the yarn will be in the front.
