Use the code “Stash” at checkout to receive your discount Just as a scrap quilt can tell a story about the people that put it together…pieces of dresses worn for Easter one year, pillowcases from a trousseau, a Christmas tablecloth…a knit piece made from a knitter’s stash can tell a story as well! For instance, the shawlette that I made contains yarn from countless projects I have designed over the past few years, each one a story in and of itself. I decided to make my scraps into a shawlette, but this piece could just as well serve as a colorful table runner. Add a few more repeats width-wise, and you would have an eye-catching blanket. The pattern used is a simple and easily memorized 2-row repeat of a Garter Chevrons and Lace Ripple Stitch. I rotated my Merino Wool fingering weight Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light and a mish-mash of other Merino Wool yarn, and I even threw in some Pima Cotton yarn I had stashed. I used approximately 250 grams or around 500 yards of my fingering weight and sport and DK weight yarn to make my shawlette, and the finished blocked measurements are 17 inches in width, and 6.5 feet in length. Rules were made to be broken with this piece as long as you stay in the general neighborhood of yarn weight, either lighter weights or heavier weights. The color choices are up to you as well, and you can do a random striping as I did and decide when to go darker or lighter when your piece seems to need it, or you can stick to a limited number of colors in an organized pattern. Full written instructions and tips are included in the pattern, a small chart, and also a couple of video tutorial links.
