My favourite thing to do is add a pattern to a very plain item. A pair of vanilla socks is fine for one or two pairs of socks but it becomes boring after a while. Adding an insertion pattern to anything from a dishcloth to socks can give a flair to that simple pattern.

This insertion pattern can be used for any gauge or needle size. There is a chart and written instructions for knitting in the round, along with two pattern suggestions. There is also written instruction for working a flat pattern.

The two suggestions for the insertion pattern included. One for a cowl and a sock (either a toe up or cuff down version). However, there is not a complete pattern for the sock.
