When you want a shawl you can mix and match, Thebarton is a go-to choice! Not only can you knit it out of a fingering or DK weight yarn, but you can apply optional tassels and the simple texture is great for both playing with colour or keeping things neutral.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS
Fingering weight version: approximately 158cm (62 ¼”) wingspan and 74cm (29 ¼”) deep at centre spine, relaxed after blocking.

DK weight version: approximately 156cm (61 ½”) wingspan and 70cm (27 ½”) deep at centre spine, relaxed after blocking.

YARN
Fingering weight version: Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 4ply (100% Merino; 720m {787yds}/200g)

1 ball Main Colour (MC): Lake (teal)
1 ball Contrast Colour (CC): (not used for sample)

OR 745m (814yds)/207g of fingering weight yarn. You will need approximately:
626m (684yds)/174g of MC
(583m {637yds}/162g for the shawl body, 43m {47yds}/12g for the tassels), and
119m (130yds)/33g of CC, or extra MC if you are
making a one-colour version (as for sample).

DK weight version: Cleckheaton Australian Superfine Merino (100% Merino; 130m {142yds}/65g)

4 balls Main Colour (MC): Iceberg (grey)
1 ball Contrast Colour (CC): Cream

OR 538m (589yds)/269g of DK weight yarn. You will need approximately:
446m (488 yds)/223g of MC
(404m {442yds}/202g for the shawl body, 42m
46yds/21g for the tassels),
and
92m (101yds)/46g of CC, or extra MC if you are making a one-colour version.

Note that your yardage requirements may vary if you are substituting an alternative yarn.

Using a CC is optional – you can make a one-colour version of this shawl by skipping all colour changing instructions in the pattern (as for fingering weight sample pictured in teal). You can also leave off the tassels if you do not have enough yardage remaining or prefer the shawl without them.
