Theolie is relaxing knit and a very wearable design. The graceful shape is created using straightforward increases in the garter stitch section. The border is then picked up and worked directly onto the edge of the shawl.

The lace section of the pattern has both a chart and written directions so you can choose which to follow.

SIZING
The pictured shawl is knitted in a light 4ply yarn. After blocking it measures approximately 170cm x 35cm / 67in x 14in

YARN REQUIREMENTS (approx)
Approximately 400m/440yds of any 4ply, fingering or sock
weight yarn.

GAUGE
The size of the shawl changes dramatically after blocking.

The approximate UNBLOCKED gauge is 21 stitches x 48 rows.

The BLOCKED gauge of the finished shawl is 14 stitches x 42 rows.

Getting an exact gauge is not crucial.

NEEDLES
You will need an 80cm/32in or longer circular needle. The
sample was knitted on a 4.5mm/US7 needle.

NOTES
Pattern includes (amongst other things):

  • chart of lace border
  • line-by-line written instructions (alternative to chart)
  • hints on blocking

03/11 The pattern has been updated for a stretchier cast off technique.
