The name for the Third Street Blanket is inspired by a map of one of the oldest neighborhoods in Kansas City…my hometown.

Third Street Blanket is knit with super bulky weight yarn so it is quick to knit on big needles.

Knit flat, in one piece, back and forth on US size 13 circular knitting needles.

DIRECTIONS FOR SIX SIZES:
Approximate sizes after blocking…

XXL: 54.5” wide x 60.5” long
XL: 50” wide x 50.5” long
Large: 41.75” wide x 50.5” long
Medium: : 38.25” wide x 38.75” long
Small (Crib/Lap): 34.5” wide x 34” long
Baby: 28.25” wide x 28” long

Any of the blanket sizes may be made longer by adding pattern repeats. Each pattern repeat adds about 1.25” to the length of the blanket. Pattern includes estimates for additional yardage needed to make blankets longer.

SKILL LEVEL: Easy

You will need to know how to cast on stitches, knit and purl confidently, read a row by row knitting pattern, bind off stitches and weave in ends. Blocking of finished knitting is recommended.

SUPER BULKY YARN:

XXL: 1350 - 1420 yards
XL: 1040 - 1100 yards
Large: 860 - 900 yards
Medium: 610 - 650 yards
Small (Crib/Lap): 490 - 520 yards
Baby: 325 - 350 yards

This pattern will work well with many super bulky weight yarns. You may also experiment with knitting two strands of bulky or worsted weight yarn together…remember you will need about twice as much yardage!

If you prefer knitting with worsted weight yarn (single strand) please see my Making Plans blanket knitting pattern.

Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your blanket.

The texture of the pattern will show up best with solid color yarns.

NEEDLES:

In order to accommodate the large number of stitches, long circular needles are highly recommended. I use US size 13 circular knitting needles 38” in length for larger blankets. For a crib or baby blanket, circular needles in a shorter length could be used.

Pattern is not reversible.

This pattern uses standard U.S. knitting terms.

Written pattern with row by row instructions.
