This design was inspired by Marianne Kinzel’s Balmoral doily which appears on the cover of her book Second Book of Modern Lace Knitting.

For my book, I studied doily patterns intensively and I’m most proud of this design. I knit the sample myself in two days. I was intrigued by the flame-like thistle spikes and worked from the top down challenging myself to place the motifs.

Once you do this kind of lace you are hooked. Very logical and not as hard as it looks.
