Stitch a symbol of protection and healing into a scarf for a friend

This pattern was designed to help keep my friend Corliss warm and well during her first winter after chemo and the loss of her hair. The hooded scarf works well with a wig, and is designed to be fairly close fitting.

The pattern uses thistle stitch and includes a story that touches on traditional beliefs about the healing power of the thistle and of recent science on the anti-cancer properties of one variety of the plant.

This lightweight hooded scarf sparkles when made up in Good for Ewe’s Mirrorball yarn. The project is crocheted from the bottom up beginning with the scarf ends. The pattern includes dimensions and instructions for three sizes (small, medium, large). Picot edging finishes the scarf ends and hood border.
