Thor’s Well is a geological feature on the Oregon Coast and the inspiration for this cowl. Knit seamlessly, the cowl takes you on a journey from Midgard to Asgard and pays homage to Thor with patterns of thunder and lightning. Once completed, the cowl folds to create a double layer for warmth.

The pattern provides side-by-side written and charted instructions for the textured stitch patterns.

For best results, use a sold-colored fingering-weight yarn with a good twist that will make the stitch patterns pop. Variegated and kettle-dyed yarns obscure the patterns; however, a long gradient will work, as would knitting the different sections in different solid colors.

Use wool yarn to create a cowl that will stand up close to the neck, or choose a blend with alpaca, silk, or rayon to make a cowl with some drape. The model shown was knit in Helios (merino/yak/silk) from Three Fates Yarns in the colorway Excalibur.
