The Thread Creek Hat is a two color, stranded colorwork hat that can be blocked to wear as a beret or a beanie.

It is named for a little trickle of water that runs through our area. Following Thread Creek’s twists and turns you reach the Flint River, which runs to the Saginaw River, and then on to Lake Huron. This pattern reminds me of the winding journey the creek takes, and the important ways something so small can contribute to something so great.

The hat is knit circularly from the ribbing to the crown with fingering weight yarn at a gauge of 32 stitches and 36 rows over 4 inches /10 cm in colorwork. If knitted with Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift just over one ball of each color is needed. Finished dimensions are 9 inches /23 cm tall and 21-22 inches / 53-55 cm in circumference after blocking.

Written directions and a colorwork chart are included. The knitter should be comfortable knitting stranded colorwork in the round. This design includes some long runs of color and familiarity with catching floats will be helpful.
