The free pattern I’m giving away at festivals this fall/winter. I handed out a slew of them at the Garden State Sheep Breeder’s 2010 festival. :D

A very silly mug cozy. The pattern is knit to size so it’ll work with any straight sided mug and any yarn.

Be sure to make it just a little bit smaller than the mug. It’ll loosen a bit with use and some negative ease will help it keep its shape better. Also, I must confess that I used my own superwash with this pattern, but a non-superwash wool would work better. Loop stitch can loosen up over time and stress, and yarn with more tooth will hold its shape longer over time. That said, superwash still works; it will just sag a little more.

I used a crochet hook to make a loop and then fastened it with a button. For extra warmth, you can add another loop/button pair that fits through the handle, but it’s not necessary to secure it.
