Tiamat was a Babylonian goddess of the ocean. One of the most ancient goddesses, her name historically comes up when people talk of dragons. She was the mother of all dragons in the Babylonian pantheon, and writings which are considered possibly the oldest known regarding sea serpents are inspired by her.
