Tiamat was a Babylonian goddess of the ocean. One of the most ancient goddesses, her name historically comes up when people talk of dragons. She was the mother of all dragons in the Babylonian pantheon, and writings which are considered possibly the oldest known regarding sea serpents are inspired by her. It is very fitting that we named this crocheted shawlette with its dragon-wing appearance after her.

The Tiamat pattern uses simple stitches that most beginning crocheters will already know or can pick up quickly. Taking only two skeins of DK weight yarn it will crochet up fast. Although delicate and lacy in appearance it will keep the chill off your shoulders whether you are walking along the beach or relaxing on your sofa.
