A fast knit worked with double stranded yarn with off centre single braids on each side and a short collar. No edging. The front pieces of the vest are generously sized and can be overlapped by half and secured with a decorative pin, brooch or a belt. Or you can wear it open and fold down the collar.

This is a pattern suitable for the beginner knitter that may have knit, purl skills and is advancing to try a cable. It gives you a beautiful finished product while advancing forward in your skills. It is a quick knit project but looks so much more advanced!

To make a slightly more fitted vest, use bulky yarn such as Rowan’s Cocoon and 8.0mm needles.

Material: 2 skeins (= 610.0 yards (557.8m)) of Garnstudios Drops Vivaldi colour 1245 or the same amount of another Worsted 10 ply yarn (preferably Mohair). 4 skeins (= 612.0 yards (559.6m)) of Lana Grossa Cinque colour 006 or the same amount of another Aran 10 ply yarn. Knit with one strand of each yarn held together.
OR approximately 500.0 yards (460m) of Bulky 12 ply yarn.

Needles: US 13 – 9 mm knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Tapestry needle. Stitch holder or spare needles/scrap yarn for holding stitches. Cable needle (a single big sized DPN will do).
Gauge: 11 sts and 16 rows = 10x10 cm/ 4x4” in stockinette stitch.
Size: approximately 38-42 M/L
Finished measurements: Width approx 56cm/22” (back piece, cast on edge). Length, from cast on edge to centre of back ca 53cm/ 21”, bust width 46cm/ 18” (back piece). The material is very stretchy and the fitting generous. Sizing is depending on how you’d like to wear it – open or closed.
