Tilt is a sock with four different panels of colour meandering gently around the foot and ankle. Twist is a more aggressive version with the colours swirling around at twice the speed. This is a sock “recipe” that assumes you already have a basic knowledge of sock knitting. The pattern can be knit as written or you can add the colour pattern instructions to your favourite plain toe-up sock pattern. These instructions are for a toe-up sock, but could easily be converted for cuff-down construction. As written, the length of the foot is approx 9” and heel to top of cuff is approx 7”. These were designed for the Sock Knitters Anonymous December 2012 Stashbuster challenge, and as such are great for using up leftovers.

What you will need:
5 Different colours of fingering weight sock yarn. Weights given are overestimated to err on the side of caution. Your mileage may vary if basing the pattern on a different basic sock pattern.
Colour A, approx 25g for toes, heels and cuffs.
Colours B, C, D, and E, approx 16-18g each. As written, colours B and D will use slightly less than C and E.

2mm double point needles (circular methods may instead be used if desired) or needles sized to get a gauge of 9-10 stitches and 12-13 rows per inch. Stitch markers if desired. Instructions are written for 5 DPN.

Yarn used in photos is Elann Essential 4ply, Red Heart Heart and Sole, Regia Galaxy, Online Supersocke 100 Candy Colour and Online Supersocke 100 Jungle Colour.

Errata: Round 4 of initial repeat of pattern should read “as for Round 2…..” not round 3 as per version 2 of PDF. The Ravelry download file, version 3, has been updated to reflect this correction.

This pattern is intended for personal, not-for-profit use only.
