Living in Kansas, I felt like the wizard of oz would be a great series of reading character bookmarks. Here is my rendition of the tin woodman of Oz.

The crochet stitches include, sc, hdc, dc, tr and sl st and front loop and back loop work. The pattern includes description of abbreviations and complete instructions along with picture tutorials.

The tin woodman’s ax can hang outside the book to remind any reader that there is more story to go. His three-dimensional head with funnel hat hangs outside the book.

What a delightful gift to give to anyone who loves to read. It would make a wonderful award for any academic achievement or to give a graduate to acknowlegde that reading is a life long habit. I have one customer who loves to add these as package adornments to spruce up her packages.

You will need a Boye Steel Crochet hook size 1 (2.25mm) or Aluminum Crochet hook size B. This is a larger size hook than usually used with thread crochet and makes working with thread crochet easier for those who are not comfortable with thread.

It uses small amounts of crochet thread and many colors can be used so it is a great project to use up small amounts of crochet thread. You will also need about 60 yards metallic silver or gray thread (or choice of body and ax head color)

Other materials Needed:
1 inch square (2.5cm) card stock or white felt piece (or choice of clock face color)
Small amount of polyester fiberfill
Tapestry needle
Washable fabric glue

Finished size: 5 1/2 inches (14cm) wide by 9 1/2 inches (24cm) long
