While you could use virtually any lace weight yarn for this scarf, it looks especially good knit in one with a subtle color or tonal variation. When working the slipped stitches, use a relaxed tension as pulling too tight will cause the stitches to buckle. The side edges of the scarf will undulate with an irregularity that gives the finished piece a vintage and worn-in appeal.
