Named after Tobar Chiarain in the Aran Islands, Tobar Aran combines older cables with new flourishes to create a pullover that reaches across time. The cable patterns were designed to create a pleasing balance of width, thickness, and shape while keeping some easier patterns to offset the more detailed ones. It is worked flat from the bottom up with set-in sleeves. The cabled waistband is worked lengthwise and sewn to the bottom. This pattern accompanies Part 2, the final part of the Special Topics in Design article, “Designing Arans,” in this issue.
