Your toddler will love this fun deer hat, full of texture and dimension! The deer’s three-dimensional antlers and ears appear to be peeking through the crisp beaded trees of the hat’s body.

This pattern is designed around Knit Picks’ Wool of the Andes and Wool of the Andes Tweed yarns with these suggested colors/amounts:

  • Main Color, “Rabbit Heather” (WOTA Tweed): Toddler sizes 1 yr. and 18 month require 1 skein ; sizes 2 yr. and 3-4 yr. require 1 1/2 skeins.
  • Antlers, “Reindeer Heather” (WOTA Tweed) or “Chocolate” (WOTA solid): 1/4 skein, all sizes.
  • Ear Linings, “Cloud” (WOTA), 5 yards, all sizes.

Additional materials:

  • 48 beads. Sample shown are Darice 6 x 9 mm “pony” beads in color “Rootbeer”.
  • Small amount of polyfill for antler stuffing.

Instructions are given for replacing the beading of the trees with small bobbles, a great option for younger toddlers.

The body of the hat is worked with #6 circular and double pointed needles (all sizes), and the antlers and ears are worked with double pointed needles (#4 for 1 year and 18 mo. sizes; #5 for 2 and 3-4 year sizes).

This pattern includes many detailed diagrams illustrating how to easily locate and create the antlers and lined ears which are integrated into the hat through picked up stitches, rather than stitched on upon hat completion.
