A fitted men’s Fair Isle cardigan in three sizes, inspired by the seven natural shades of the Foula Wool it was knitted in.

This cardigan has a fitted look and the pattern is written for three sizes. The sizes are the actual garment sizes across the chest.

3.5mm circular needle, OR needle size to give you the right gauge in moss stitch
2 double-pointed needles in 3.5mm
3mm crochet hook
large-eyed crewel or wool needle with sharp point
scraps of waste yarn to temporarily hold sts
stitch markers
regular sewing needle and sewing thread
8 toggles or buttons

The cardigan is knitted from the bottom up. It has steek stitches for the front opening and the armholes. After the body is knitted the shoulders are joined with a three-needle bind-off. To avoid bulky edges the steeks are finished with knots. You can find a knotted steek tutorial here. Stitches will be picked up and knitted from the front edges to create buttonbands. Then stitches are picked up and knitted from the armholes to create the sleeves.
