This design is part of The Cottage Garden Vol. 2 collection, which is inspired by the Hobbits imagined by J.R.R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings --  their dwellings, their values and way of life.
It is available both as an individual pattern and as part of this eBook.

“Then something Tookish woke up inside him, and he wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves, and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick.”

At first glance, these are the perfect lounging pants to stay cozy at home… but their Tookish nature means that a little Hobbit might find themselves heading outside, looking for adventures!

With their properly shaped seat, these versatile, deliciously hobbity pants fit correctly and can accommodate even cloth diapers. The folded-over waist casing is designed for a cord but and elastic waistband can also easily be substituted. Two leg lengths are included: below the knee to protect those little knees (and look adorable), and a full-length option as well. The suspenders complete the outfit, but can also be left out for an everyday look.

CONSTRUCTION:

These pants are knit seamlessly in the round from the waist to the ribbed leg cuffs and feature optional straps. A folded-over waist casing with an I-cord tie ensures a secure fit around the waist. Short rows and a looser fit in the seat area help accommodate even bulky diapers. The crotch is closed by grafting (just a few stitches) or a three-needle bind off. Stitches are picked up from the top of the waistband to work the straps. The leg length is designed to be below the knee but instructions for full-length are also included.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Provisional casting on (optional), knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, German short rows (link to video tutorial provided), grafting (link to kitchener stitch tutorial provided), three-needle bind off, binding off.
