The finished dimensions of the hand portion of this mitten are 3.5” x 10”. The style is meant to be slim and fit your hand, but not tight. This project works up quickly and might even be fun two at a time!

Mittens are worked top-down (from tips of fingers through palm then down to cuff) with provisional cast on for the thumb gusset stitches. Gusset comes straight out from the side so there’s no right and left mitten. Make a third for that forgetful friend so there’s a spare when one gets lost! ;)

The plain mitten is clearly written out and then you’ll find a breakdown of how to apply the stripes or the fair isle. The fair isle chart is simple to follow and the geometric design looks great from both directions (this section could easily be replaced with any other 6 stitch panel).

A wise knitter I know also pointed out that a cleverly placed buttonhole in the crook of the thumb might be just the modification for those who do a lot of texting or have other gadgets that require such dexterity.

Special thanks to Beck Gusler (lemonhalf) for the layout, Karen Yockey (ttownknitiot) for the photo shoot and to all my test knitters.
