From pattern description:

My four-year-old daughter Cecily is really fond of turtles and asked me for a turtle hat. I looked for patterns but didn’t find any so I made this one up. When her preschool teacher asked for a matching one, I knew I was on to something. The best part of this pattern is that the back flippers double as ear warmers! And, it makes a great toy too! We named it Tortuga to honor Cecily’s favorite TV turtle whose name is ‘Tuga.’ Unlike slow-pokey turtles, this one knits up quickly.
