Autumn, that wonderful time of year when nature’s colors are changing and the temperature can be unpredictable, cool one day and warm the next! Having accessories appropriate for this transitional season are important additions to any wardrobe. The Touch of Fall cowl, with its alternating sections of openwork and solid construction, provides just the right amount of coverage. Plymouth Yarn’s Cottonation, a light cotton tape, creates a soft drape that’s perfect for those unpredictable fall days.

This pattern is most appropriate for advanced beginners or intermediate crocheters. Stitches used are single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. The foundation row is worked into the back bump of the foundation chain to create a beautiful bottom edge that matches the look of the top edge. Even though the cowl is worked in the round, the work is turned on two of the pattern rows to create the looped ridge.

While I used just one skein of Cottonation, another ball can be used to extend the size of the cowl. In fact, the dimensions of the cowl can be easily adjusted, something I note in the pattern.

This cowl works up very quickly. Working in the round means there is no seam to sew. Any worsted weight yarn would work for this cowl - the sky’s the limit!
