Tracye’s Cowl kit is named in memory of Tracye Payne Wilson, who learned to knit in 2017 with a Project Knitwell volunteer at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (MGUH). Tracye was undergoing treatment for cancer. Knitting offered her a sense of accomplishment and provided focus and hope at a difficult time. Tracye planned to learn to purl and make hats for her two grandbabies. She talked about becoming a Project Knitwell volunteer someday.

A good friend of Tracye’s says: “Tracye would be so tickled that she has a cowl — in her favorite color purple — named after her. She spoke about her friendship with the Project Knitwell volunteer and the comfort her listening ear provided at a really challenging time. Tracye’s life was all about giving back and she would be so happy her story and cowl will support the work of Project Knitwell.”

In honor of Tracye, this pattern is now free for all.
