Train & Tracks Hat - Locomotive, Coal Car, Passenger Car, Caboose knitting pattern in PDF format is written for ages 3-10 with a 20” circumference.

Train tracks are designed into a modified corrugated ribbing that mimics rails and railroad ties. A steam locomotive and three train cars are designed around the whole hat above the tracks.

This hat is knitted in the round using stranded colorwork. Optional duplicate stitch is used for the coal and steam/smoke, if you so desire. I have also included some notes on re-sizing the hat…smaller or bigger.

Materials needed:
Size 6 & 8 -16” circular or double point needles or size to match gauge.

Worsted weight yarn in 4 or 5 colors: I used;
Reynolds Paterna Wool (50 gms=109yds) 50 gms total used:
MC = Gray 32 gms Rails = Light Gray 2 gms Train = Red 9 gms
Wheels, coal & railroad ties = Black 7 gms

Plus about 2.5 yds White for steam/smoke (optional)
Note: I used duplicate stitch to add the “coal” and the “steam/smoke”.
