The Tranquility Shawl is pretty inside and out. Not only do the Showy Decreases update the familiar leaf pattern with clean more contemporary lines that rise up off the surface. The design also pays careful attention to the edge stitches. It starts with the Resilient Cast on, a decorative version of the long-tail cast on that has the added benefit of more give so it enhances wavy edges. The two sides replace the typical garter stitches with our non-rolling Hatch Edge that doesn’t warp the knit fabric the way garter does.

If you’d like to play around with some of these new techniques we’ve included three of our introductory patterns in a free Ravelry eBook. They’re a great way to get started. The Manchester Scarf introduces right and left leaning Showy Decreases and the Hatch Stitch edge in a simpler pattern.

What’s different about this shawl pattern?
