This is a hat inspired by the many pussy hats of the women’s march but after hearing that many trans people feel that the generic pussy hat felt exclusionary I wanted to make a design that would be inclusive of trans people. Trans women are women. I also felt like there didn’t seem to be many knitting designs that were representative of the trans community in general besides using the general color scheme. As someone who loves stranded designs and colorwork I thought it would be cool to make a little bit more detailed design that people could use to raise awareness and representation. This hat was originally knit in the colors of the trans flag: pastel blue, light pink and white; but could easily be knit in other colors.

This pattern has options for a hat with crown shaping and optional cat ears or a square construction where cat ears can be achieved with some light pin tucking.

This hat was knitted in cascade heritage fingering solids but any fingering weight yarn will do. As with most stranded patterns, a yarn with some wool or other animal fiber will help give more flexibility in the stranded work.

The size given will fit most teens to adults but if you have a particularly large head you may need to go up a needle size or add some extra stitches.

I hope that people will enjoy this pattern and I would love to hear your feedback.
