  • Transylvania is a 2-color, no purl, top-down shawl knit with fingering weight yarn.

  • The main section of the shawl is knit in alternating stripes of 2 rows of each of 2 colors.

  • The mosaic slip stitch pattern helps break up potential pooling of colors if a self-striping or hand-painted yarn is used as the contrasting color.

  • The edging is simple crochet, however, the same stitches can be accomplished using knitting needles -- a photo tutorial and detailed instructions are included.

  • The written instructions include the stitch counts for each repeat of the pattern with convenient check-off boxes to help keep track of the pattern.

  • Fingering weight yarn, 340 yards/310 meters of MC (shown in Malabrigo Sock) and 255 yards/230 meters of CC (shown in Miss Babs Cosmic). (This allows 10% extra for variance in different yarns, and it includes yarn used for gauge swatch.)

  • Finished size may vary depending of the severity of blocking.

  • Full pattern is 7 pages. The final 2 pages are a tutorial to complete the edging with knitting needles. Those who are proficient in simple crochet will not need to print the final 2 pages. Also, page 5 is a chart, so knitters who prefer to knit from written instructions will not need to print this page.

Pattern has been tech edited and tested. Thanks to Patty McGuire for photography.
