This is a Hat inspired by Scotty’s Hat from the recent Star Trek movie. The ‘Nerdy Knitters’ group asked me to help them create a Hat, and this is what I came up with.
Although the Hat in the film appears to be constructed from alternate panels of vertical and sideways garter stitch, this pattern isn’t a true Scotty’s Hat - instead it is a Hat similar in style, and ideal for those not keen on short rows or seaming. For a version with sideways garter stitch and short row shaping try ‘Scotty’s Hat by Nicole Lorenz.
This version is knit entirely in the round, with panels of garter stitch and 1x1 ribbing (sideways garter stitch functions the same as 1x1 rib but does look a little bit different) and is knit from the bottom up.
This is a perfect Hat for tucking up your dreads, and ideal for both men and women!
