This project came from my desire to use that special yarn. You know the one, it sits it the stash and you look longingly at it every time you open your bin. I have had this Manos del Uruguay- Alegria for some time, and I only had one skein. So I couldn’t make something huge out of it. But it could be used for beautiful accents. And I used so little of it that there is still plenty for use on other projects. So this is what emerged. I love cowls, particularly ones for brisk-but-not-cold days. And I love lace, but not covering the whole thing. Maybe I’m just picky.

So I hope you think of that special yarn and incorporate it into this cowl. A bit of it is worked in simple Stockinette. Then a few simple lace charts, then the main lace chart, which is not that difficult. I encourage anyone who is scared of lace to give this a try. It looks great, but it’s very easy.

Thanks to everyone who downloaded my first pattern. It gave me the confidence to keep writing patterns, and to keep reaching for more.

Yardage- Main Color: 400 Yards
Color A- 200 Yards
Color B- 200 Yards

Needles: I used a 3.25mm circular needle 40cm long. This worked well for moving my stitches around the needle without needing to Magic Loop.

A note on gauge: I didn’t get the exact gauge until I blocked this cowl. The lace did not stretch out to 5” long until it was blocked. So do take a minute to make a swatch (or play the “close enough” game if it really is close and you feel really confident, but just keep that in mind.)
