This was a pattern I came up with for a “knit around” project with a friend. This was my first six inch contribution and I liked the pattern so much I wanted to create it for others to use.

This pattern could be used for any project with 40 stitches such as a hat, blanket, etc.

The piece knitted from this pattern was knit with TWO strands of yarn, both the same color. The pattern could easily be knit with just one yarn as long as you change your needles to a smaller size to maintain the detail of the cabling. Or could be knit with a bulky yarn as well.

You will need:

  • depending on the project you decide to use the pattern for will greatly affect the amount of yarn you need. For the six inch piece I knitted it took about half a skein (a quarter from each separate ball)

  • 8 US straight knitting needles

  • one 8 US double point needle or a cable needle, which ever you prefer to use for cabling

  • crochet hook or darning needle for weaving in loose ends

KEY:
St = Stitches
CO = Cast On
BO = Bind Off
C4F = Place two stitches purl wise on cable needle holding them to the Front of your knitting, Knit next two stitches on the left hand needle, then Knit the two stitches on the cable needle
C4B = Place two stitches purl wise on cable needle holding them to the Back of your knitting, Knit next two stitches on the left hand needle, then Knit the two stitches on the cable needle
C6F = Place Three stitches purl wise on cable needle holding them to the Front of your knitting, Knit next three stitches on the left hand needle, then Knit the three stitches on the cable needle
C6B = Place Three stitches purl wise on cable needle holding them to the Back of your knitting, Knit next Three stitches on the left hand needle, then Knit the Three stitches on the cable needle

This is my first pattern, if there are any errors or you have a question on something that is not clear please feel free to message me.
