Non-traditional cables and a twisted rib crown and nape give this bonnet an unusual and modern twist. It has been cleverly designed so that each size can be worn for longer than most baby and toddler hats allow. The utterly delightful, super soft and squishy MillaMia merino is the perfect match for this bonnet.

Heavy detailing means this hat needs a little more time and love to complete than the average hat. Some knowledge of knitting with cables, short row decreases, and chart reading is helpful; however, the explanations given throughout the pattern make it a good opportunity to learn these techniques. An advanced beginner would probably find this pattern challenging, yet doable.

TRO is knitted flat in one piece. Starting at the brim, you work twisted rib in waves, simultaneously working the cable pattern. You then continue working cables until you come to the crown, at which point you start working twisted rib short rows to join the top piece to the back piece. Once this is complete and you have cast off, you will cast on stitches for the chin strap, and pick up and knit stitches around the bottom of the bonnet to form a neckband.

There are 3 size options for this hat:
Small: 0-6 months (36-42cm head circumference)
Medium: 6-24 months (41-48cm head circumference)
Large: 24 months + (49cm + head circumference). This size has been tested on 2 year olds and 10 year olds, so dependent on head circumference, size large will fit for years.
