Trocta de Ruggiero was a medical practitioner and medical writer in the southern Italian town of Salerno during the XI century, famous for its university, one of the earliest medical schools in Europe. Three different medical treaties have been attributed to her or are derived from her previous works: De passionibus mulierum ante in et post partum, De ornatu mulierum, and Practica secondum Trotam, these three books constitute the so-called Trotula.
Despite the fact that in the following centuries the influence of the Trotula spread through the whole Europe, her figure became distorted. She lost her value ad a real figure, becoming a legendary figure, so that the medical science could be cleaned from the fact that a woman was the author of some of the most important books of the age.

Trocta is knitted circularly top down using two colors of Sesia’s Green Wool, an organic wool dyed with natural extracts. Two balls of the yarn are enough to produce one hat in any of the sizes.

Trocta de Ruggiero era una donna medico e autrice di testi di medicina all’università di Salerno nel XI secolo, una delle più antiche facoltà di medicina in Europa. Tre diversi trattati medici le sono attribuiti direttamente o sono tratti da suoi lavori: De passionibus mulierum ante in et post partum, De ornatu mulierum, e Practica secondum Trotam; questi tre testi costituiscono la cosiddetta Trotula.
Nei secoli successivi l’influenza della Trotula si fece sentire in tutta Europa, tuttavia la sua figura venne deformata. Perse il suo valore come reale medico diventando una figura leggendaria, in questo modo la scienza media potè essere ripulita dalla macchia creata dal fatto che alcuni dei testi più importanti di quell’epoca fossero stati scritti da una donna.
Trocta è lavorato in tondo dall’alto usando due colori di Green Wool di Sesia, una lana bio tinta con estratti naturali. Due gomitoli del filato sono sufficienti a produrre un cappello in qualsiasi delle taglie proposte.
