The different yarns suggested in the pattern may all be used. They are interchangeable. However, I think all of them have since been discontinued.

The sweater is knitted in the round from the bottom up and then divided. Front and back are knitted flat.

This is one version of a traditional Scandinavian fisherman’s jumper, that may be attributed to the island Gotland, located off the east coast of Sweden.

In Sweden, similar sweaters has the nick-name “Pippitröja”, from the children’s book character Pippi Longstocking. In one of the movie adaptations from Astrid Lindgren’s book the actress playing Pippi is wearing a sweater that looks very much like this one.
