Yes, this pattern is the 2013 Downton Abbey Mystery Crochet-A-Long, but without all the verbage from our favorite Dowager Countess! Free to anyone who purchased the Mystery CAL (or, if you purchase this pattern, you can have the Downton Abbey Mystery CAL for free).

Now that the mystery is over, the actual name for the pattern can be revealed. Before this pattern, we crocheted “First Love” and “Big Love,” but fond as I am of them, I wanted to create something more intriguing, more mysterious, something to make you wonder “where are we going with this?” Something more like what love really is.

Something which reminded me of Mary and Matthew, with their abstruse beginning, attracted to each other but always, it seemed, at cross purposes. Something reminiscent of Anna and Bates, with their lives and fortunes swept up in the tide of changes around them. Something to make me think of Sybil and Branson and their unusual courtship in a garage filled with automotive parts…

I guess everyone wants to find their “true love”. But even if you find that special person, there are no guarantees in this life, except perhaps, the certainty that things will change. So I suppose the moral is to savor every minute, while you have it, and never take the magic for granted. We are here to dance together for only a short time, so enjoy the dance, and be kind to each other along the way!
