For this thick and cozy scarf, Deborah Newton combined seven colors of worsted-weight alpaca in Fair Isle patterns that she worked in rounds so that the stranded yarns along the wrong side of the fabric would be enclosed within the resulting tube. By adding texture in the form of an occasional purl stitch, she instilled an updated look to the otherwise traditional pattern motifs. To give the piece a bit of whimsy, she added garter-stitch points to the ends and topped them off with mismatched chunky tassels.
