This mitten pattern was inspired by freely floating and cascading horse manes. I wanted to knit curvy lines resembling the almost tangled locks of hair.

The mittens are knit cuff-up and they have a short seed stitch edging before colourwork pattern begins. They feature an afterthought thumb.

The pattern is chart based. There is a short written instruction but the knitter needs to be familiar with mitten construction. This is not a beginner-oriented pattern.

Skills needed: knitting in the round, knitting with two colours, reading a colourwork chart, afterthought thumb

Size: Finished circumference 20 cm (8’’), finished lenght 24 cm (9,4’’)

Alter gauge for larger or smaller sizes.

Yarn substitution: You can use a variety of fingering weight yarns for this pattern. If you prefer, you could also substitute a heavier yarn and knit it to gauge to get a thicker, stiffer fabric.
