A note on gauge - it is very important that you knit these at the recommended gauge of 8 stitches per inch to fit an average women’s hand. For me that means knitting these on a size 2 needle since it’s so difficult to knit colorwork loosely.

For my sample, I was aiming for a slightly smaller size for a gift and used a 1.5 siz needles, gauge was 8.5 stitches per inch. I also knit fewer rows of ribbing and stockinette for the thumb and hand to get a shorter hand as well.
