This pattern has been re-written, updated and revised to include more sizes! You can find the new pattern, the Magpie Moccasins, here!!

The Tum Tum pattern is as close to a traditional moccasin as you can get--except it’s knitted! These moccasins are knit in a warm, breathable and lightweight wool, designed to stay on a baby’s foot securely with the help of a tongue and woven I-cord. With a garter stitch sole, purled shoe and seed stitch along the top, this moccasin is as much fun to look at, as it is to knit!

The fringe is the best part… Taken from a deceptively easy technique used to adorn a special kind of embroidery called Mountmellick, it is first knitted in a lace stitch, then unraveled to create the fringe. Small seed beads can also be sewn on to add a colorful touch and traditional flair to these adorable, one-of-a-kind baby booties.
