This cable afghan has many properties unique to many cabling stitches out there. While many cables in crochet (post sts) have a background of only sc or hdc, this afghan uses a backdrop comprised of a combination of sts.

While giving a complimentary subtle vertical texture, this backdrop (as I call it) also allows for easier navigation when locating stitches. Though the piece may seem complicated from afar, I find using this technique lends itself easier to those becoming more familiar with cables.

This technique, single post sts coupled with the combination stitch background also yields a beautiful backside. There are no ragged edges of cables on the underside. The only place cables are apparent on the WS is the border which is intended to be a reversible border.

This afghan is currently written for 3 sizes, but is easily customizable if you are wanting to use lighter or heavier yarns or wish to have a size not listed. This also stands for the length- Working the pattern with 3 rows of 3, 2, and 3 respectively will result in a square.

Please let me know if you have any questions. And if you are new to cables, give this blanket a try. Though it may seem difficult looking at it whole, once you learn where to insert the hook to overlap the post stitches, you will be amazed at how quickly you can grasp this thereafter.
