Knitted Vest with a Open Lace Work Twisted Braid Design down both sides of the front, the back is in Stockinette Stitch. It is knitted with worsted weight yarn. Use a wool blend for warmth or a cotton blend for a summer accent.
The vest is knitted on a size 8 needle, you can use either straight or circular. I use circular for the button bands due to the amount of stitches especially on the larger size vests. The Open Lace Work Twisted Braid is not difficult. It is primarily Yarn Overs, K2tog and SSK to make the twist look like it is going in different directions. It is an eight stitch pattern repeat. By using markers between patterns it helps keep you on track. Additional supplies needed are: Stitch Holders, Buttons and Split Ring Markers
The Pattern does not require a large amount of yarn like a sweater with sleeve. Roughly half the amount. The pattern comes in Sizes 28 to 38 using 450 to 1,000 yards depending on size being made. The shoulder seams can be made two different ways. Either with a Bind Off and sew together or with a “3 Needle Bind Off”. The pattern shows the conventional Bind Off, but can easily be made with the 3 Needle BO because the shoulder stitches are even not bound off in levels.
