I love fingerless mitts, it’s just I’ve smallish hands for a grown up, so I decided that rather than knit those beautiful mitts I was ogling on the net and then be upset because they turn out to be too big, I’d make my very own, from scratch…eek! I was really pleased with how they turned out and the speed that I was able to knit them, this pattern is nearly instant knitting gratification.

I was only left with a few scraps of yarn, so if you knit loose or are making them bigger then I’d suggest maybe getting another ball of yarn.

These are made to fit my hands; they measure 5.75 inch wrist and 6.75 inch across the knuckles. Although a few days after making them I was wearing them and my sister-in-law (who has much bigger hands than me) tried them on and said they fit her fine.

Thank you GloamingOrchid for letting me know about the following mistake in the pattern:

’so the thumb gusset stitches from the left mitt were showing up on the right mitt (round 40 to 46). Easy enough to ignore,’

I’ve updated the pattern and it should now be correct, sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Round 31 on both mitts: Your instructions read, ”…Knit to marker, M1, K4, K2tog, K4, M1.” I believe it should read, ”…Knit to marker, M1, K4, K2tog, K3, M1, knit to the end of the round.” First, the stitch count is off. In the previous increase round, we saw two M1s and a K7, adding up to 9 sts between the markers. Two K4s plus one K2tog = 10 sts; thus the change to K3. Second, you omitted the ‘knit to the end of the round’ that is on the rest of your instructions.

Right mitt (a suggestion, not an error): I placed markers just as in the instructions for the left mitt. This would allow you to say ‘knit to marker’ rather than K7, and would make the instructions for the two mitts more consistent.

Round 32, Right Mitt: Should read: “K7, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K2 (or knit to marker), place the next 10 sts on waste yarn, CO 2 sts, knit to the end of the round. (Because the cast on sts should be bridging the removed thumb gusset sts and not be at the beginning of the next round).
Round 33, Right Mitt (would then read): “K8, P1….etc.”

Similarly, Round 32, Left Mitt: Should read: ”…on waste yarn. CO 2 sts.”
Round 33 would then read, “K3, P1…etc.” In this case if you place the CO sts at the beginning of the round rather than the end, then all of the remaining rounds should have a K2 added to the beginning to account for the extra sts. If you place them instead at the end of the round, then this problem doesn’t come up.

Thank you textiletech for the clear instructions. Hope they are of use to everyone
