Size: 53 x 58 inches

Yarn: C+; afghan yarn, 32 oz.
Two colors; as photographed, rose and beige.

Needles: number 13

Gauge: 5 stitches equal 2 inches

Chart: one box= 6 stitches; 2 boxes wide; 6 x 2 = 12 sts.

To knit: Tie contrasting yarn on right side of unit 1. Begin with 2 squares, one on top of the other. Continue with rectangles to the sides (units 3 and 4) and then top and bottom (units 5 and 6). Continue for as many rectangles as desired. The rectangles are all the same height, which is the height of the original square. But each pair of rectangles is wider than the previous pair by the width of the original first square (unit 1).

Any number of colors may be used. Draw the design on graph paper and color the units as you would like them.

The pattern also includes a table for those who do not wish to break the yarn until the bedspread is completed. If the easier method of breaking the yarn every second unit is adopted, then pick up each unit from the right side and cast off on the right side. Pick up from the cast-off row of each rectangle through the far loops of the chained edge.
