When I’m constructing clothes for toys, I love playing around with different shapes and structures and experimenting with the properties of different stitches. When I was designing these dresses, I knew how I wanted to do the bodice, but I couldn’t decide how I wanted the skirts to look; I decided to make two variations. Both dresses are knitted top down with a garter stitch bodice, and cap sleeves are made by picking up stitches at the edges of the bodice. The eyelet dress has a stockinette stitch skirt with eyelet increases and a ruffled hem, which is made by allowing the stockinette stitch to curl. The triangle dress has a sharp geometric shape and a garter stitch border; I wanted it to look like a child’s drawing of a dress, with pointy sides. Once I was finished with the dresses I thought they needed a matching accessory, so I designed a small garter stitch bow that loops over the keychain strap so it won’t fall off. Each dress and bow set is made with one Lion Brand Bonbons mini skein, so a pack of Bonbons will make eight sets!
